Does dust and pollen make you sneeze and itch? As spring approaches it may be necessary for you to service and clean your air conditioning system to make sure it keeps you cool in the hot weather instead of sniffily.

However it’s not just allergy sufferers that need to pay annual attention to their cooling and heating. A properly functioning air conditioning and heating unit will save you running costs and prevent unnecessary breakdowns.

Please use Surrey Air’s 7 point ‘do it yourself’ spring checklist to keep your unit running this year:

Take a look inside your air conditioners motor – if you see a build up of dust and dirt then your unit is well overdue for a service.

Surrey Air recommends you start up your air conditioner once a month through the cool months and your heater once a month through the warmer months so that the seals stay strong and your unit keeps in top shape.

Spring is a great time to clean the return air grille filter. Warm in warm soapy water or vacuum clean but keep it out of the hot sun while it dries.

Clean around the outdoor compressor unit to ensure good airflow. Wash off the dust and dirt. Check for any cracks or other damage that may have occurred unnoticed.

Starting the unit before the first hot (or first cold) day of the year is a smart idea so that you have plenty of time to get any problems fixed. Check outside again and listen for unusual noises like grinding or tapping which will indicate that a service is required even if the air is flowing.

If after half an hour the unit is not cooling or heating the rooms then you will need a service.

If all is working well you can now sit back and enjoy the season!

If you decide that your unit needs a service then a Surrey Air technician will clean, repair and rejuvenate your system and rid it of unnecessary grime and dust that may be causing you and your staff to sneeze, cough and splutter your way through Spring.

Or take an extra step and invest in a Daikin air purifier. An air purifier works to cleanse the air around you by removing pollens, mites and other bacteria that pollute the air we breathe.

Hydrochloroflurocarbons (HCFCs) and being phased out in accordance with the Montreal Protocol on Substances the Deplete the Ozone Layer. Australia is excelling in its environmental obligations under the Montreal Protocol and will essentially have phased out consumption of HCFCs by 2016.

The Montreal Protocol sets binding progressive phase out obligations for developed and developing countries for all the major ozone depleting substances, including CFCs, halons and less damaging transitional chemicals such as HCFCs.

CFC’s were the first to be phased out when Australia ceased the import and manufacture of CFC’s on 1 January 1996.

Surrey Air is committed to environmental sustainability and fully supports Australia’s obligations under the Montreal Protocol as part of our Environmental Policy . A Surrey Air expert technician will advise if your unit contains HCFCs and recommend the best replacement heating or cooling system for your needs.

More on the Montreal Protocol can be found at:

Air conditioning has become such a major part of our home and work lives that when systems break down we demand that they be fixed immediately. Sometimes you need to make a serious decision about whether to replace your equipment or repair, especially when older equipment is involved.

Every scenario is different. Often, the first instinct is to call for a quick repair job. But is this the right decision? Repairs on an existing unit may be the least expensive short term option. However installing a new, energy efficient system may be a better long term option, both in terms of performance and operational cost. (New units are about 10% more efficient than older style units.)Deciding whether to repair or replace requires balancing a range of factors, of which upfront cost may not be the most important.

So how do you decide? Use these seven important factors to assist you…

Limited availability of replacement parts for older models

Age of the equipment and its life expectancy

Condition of the equipment

How long will the air conditioner be down while awaiting repair?

Labour resources

Energy efficiency

Available Budget

Your Surrey Air technician is trained to assist you in making the best decision for your situation.

For a perfect climate at home and work choose Surrey Air – enquire today

Local Daikin Specialist Dealers Surrey Air was very pleased to be part of the team behind Daikin winning the CANSTAR Blue most satisfied customer award this year.

Daikin pipped its competitors at the post in the 2011 Canstar Blue air conditioner survey, coming in first in a range of categories, including energy efficiency and overall satisfaction.

Daikin beat other major air-conditioning brands and scored top marks in the categories of overall satisfaction, after sales service, reliability, ease of use, functionality, noise and energy efficiency.

Surrey Air believes Daikin’s award comes from years of listening to customers request and superior after sales service.

According to the survey, participants said their greatest gripe with other air-conditioning units were: units installed incorrectly and in the wrong locations; high running costs and energy usage; remote controls and instructions hard to understand and use; excessive noise made by the unit; and unattractive appearance.

Daikin Air Conditioning prides itself on 5 key areas:

Daikin Specialist Dealers provide customers with total air conditioning solutions by coming to your home and providing the best advice, installation and after sales support.

Daikin Specialist Dealers can provide expert advice and guidance; different spaces have different heating and cooling requirements. In order to ensure you get the most energy efficient solution, a Daikin Specialist Dealer will assess and provide the right solution for your home.

Your Daikin Specialist Dealer has exclusive access to Daikin’s extensive product resources and industry knowledge and can use these to give you detailed quotes and proposals to explain your options in easy to understand language.

Your Daikin Specialist Dealer will provide quality installations at a time to suit you and will take time to talk you through how to operate the system.

Daikin’s Split System air conditioners are approved by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice program and is the only split system air conditioning system which carries the blue butterfly symbol.
